What’s special about a surf and yoga retreat?

Surfing and yoga work in harmony together, both requiring strength, flexibility, balance and focus. Most importantly they both require you to be in the present moment. Surfing and yoga are both pure indulgent and yet so simple. It’s a great way to get fit and tone and sculpt your body, and it only takes a yoga mat, a surfboard and some waves.

“Surfing will leave you feeling alive, at peace and truly connected with Mother Nature. There is no greater feeling in the world than sitting on your board, looking to the horizon and waiting for your next wave to come in. Out in the ocean you experience what it means to live in the moment and to forget everything else around you. It’s meditative and calms your mind. You feel the magic of the ocean, its energy and being connected to it. The thrill of taking off on a wave and the rush of the ride is truly amazing.”

Surfing will make you glow as you connect with mother nature, feeling the wind blowing in your hair, the water splashing gently on your skin and the sun radiating its warmth on your body, whether you have just rode the face of a wave or stood up for the first time. Yoga will circulate your blood, eliminating many toxins, which will have you radiating with health. The feeling of both is pure bliss and they will both leave you smiling from the inside out.

Surfing and yoga both are conversations between your mind, body and soul. Both teach you to quiet your monkey mind enough to concentrate on catching the next wave or executing the next pose. They are very grounding experiences and a great chance to gain clarity in life and help build your mediation practice.

Just like a challenging yoga pose, where you need to surrender to your breath and gently fall into the pose when your body and mind are ready, surfing teaches us about “Patience”. In a world that is built on control its nice to surrender and just go with the flow and wait for the wave to roll in on its own time, or for the pose to come when we are truly ready.

Whether you manage to quiet your busy mind through yoga or find a quiet beach where you are out on the water alone. Both will soothe your soul. It will give you space to quietly reflect on life, and allow the answers to everyday questions come into your head. It will put your everyday life into perfect perspective.

The beauty of both is that if you don’t succeed, you stop, learn, re-focus and feel better prepared for the next time. It’s an endless discovery of both physical and mental strength. This is why the awakening of ones mind, body and soul through surfing and yoga is so inspiring on every level.

You will be amazed at how the camaraderie inspired by a retreat brings with it a sense of sheer fun. Bali retreats encourage personal growth, empowerment, inspire to follow your own bliss and are a great deal of fun. So in summary, the best retreat to go for is a bali surf and yoga retreat.

Why join us for a surf & yoga retreat?

If you are looking for new experiences, need fresh energy in your life, feel tired and uninspired, need healing time and want to do what your heart desires? Than a  surf and yoga retreat might be just what you need to gain a new perspective, expand your horizons and bring positive energy into your body, mind and soul.

Retreats in general, provide the opportunity to step back from the demands of daily life, reflect and re-orient your focus and priorities. During a retreat, many moments of quiet introspection can help you rediscover what is important to you, and what you want to manifest. Retreats inspire you to make positive changes, as well as appreciate and have gratitude for what you already have in your life. And while ‘finding yourself’ is something that can happen unexpectedly on any retreat, there is a special atmosphere that stimulate inspiration, empowerment and new perspectives.

This is what guests are saying about us:

Absolutely loved my stay here. This is a gorgeous family run retreat in Canggu; beautiful people, delicious fresh food, clean rooms, nice pool. Wonderful Sarah and Made are amazing hosts. I was really well looked after throughout my stay, getting everything organised and changes in my plans managed seamlessly. A perfect balanced combination of surfing, yoga, messages, Bali exploration and chillaxing. The surf areas were away from the big crowds and the instructors are very motivated to get you the best possible surf experience according to your skills and to help you progress and develop further. The patient instructors constantly keep a safe eye on you, help you in the line up and give valuable feedback. A special thanks to Deduk for the amazing experience at Kuta Reef – will never forget!
Yoga in beautiful salas and massages in the room were amazing. I also had great opportunities to experience and learn about the authentic local culture.

Absolutely best place to take a step back and rejuvenate yourself. Matur suksma! <3″  – Marika, Germany

It was an absolute pleasure to spend a week with the team at MBS Bali. “If you’re thinking about doing a retreat in Bali and researching MBS Bali – Do it! It was an incredibly relaxing and memorable holiday. It totally exceeded my expectations and I felt incredibly cared for and well looked after. Sarah and Deduk are lovely genuine people who really enjoy what they do and sharing beautiful Bali with visitors. As such, they make wonderful hosts……..”  – Brigid. , New Zealand

Spent 3 nights at MBS as a solo traveler and had an awesome time at this small family-run retreat oasis.

Airport pick up was seamless. The owner, Sarah, went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable, happy and safe. She helped me get a SIM card, organized my massage and booked a reiki healing session at the villa that was mind-blowing. She was always available to answer questions and even offered to be my point of contact throughout my stay in Bali. I absolutely adore and appreciate her.

Sarah’s husband, Deduk, taught the surf lessons and he’s a fantastic instructor. He provided everything – the boards, rash guards, leggings and booties for reef breaks (highly suggest if you’re a beginner), post-surf shower, drinking water, and transport. Photos were taken on the 1st day that were super helpful to review.

Loved the yoga instructor, Ajeng. She came to the villa and gave soothing yin classes that felt so good for my body and spirit, especially after surfing.

The oh so fabulous housekeeper, Made, prepared delicious breakfasts every morning that included freshly made juice, eggs or pancakes, yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit. Loved learning about Balinese culture from her and shared plenty of laughs.

I stayed in the double room but didn’t have a roomie. A/C worked well, comfy bed, soft plush bathroom towels and plenty of room for my stuff.

I couldn’t have asked for anything more during my stay. I absolutely loved everyone and everything!

Shifting into Gratitude

We all know what it’s like to finally get something we want, only to find ourselves feeling as if we don’t deserve it. Whether it’s a car, a new job, or a date with someone wonderful, we suddenly feel as if we are not up to it. Something in us wants to reject this gift from the universe, perhaps because it requires that we think of ourselves in a new way or makes us question why we should have something that others don’t have. If these feelings of unworthiness are not consciously acknowledged, they can lead us to sabotage ourselves out of the gift being offered. Perhaps the best way to avoid rejection and sabotage is to simply shift into a state of gratitude, bypassing the question of worthiness altogether.

The question of whether we or anyone else deserves something is not really in our jurisdiction. These themes play themselves out in ways we can’t fully comprehend–on the level of the soul, over the course of many lifetimes. What we do know is that the universe has its own way of shifting the balance over the course of time so that all things are ultimately fair. We can trust in this process and understand that when a gift comes our way, it is because we are meant to have it. Otherwise, it would not be available to us. Accepting the gift with gratitude and using it to the best of our ability is true humility.

When we receive a gift and find that feelings of unworthiness crop up, we can simply acknowledge the feelings and then remind ourselves that they are beside the point. We might say to ourselves, “I am meant to have this.” As we allow ourselves to accept the gift, we might feel tenderness in our hearts that naturally shifts into a deep feeling of gratitude. As we sit for a moment, consciously holding the gift in our hands or in our hearts, we say “yes” to the universe’s many blessings, and we also say “thank you.”

Super-cool phone-free social clubs, purposefully no-WiFi cafes, and other environments for IRL connection are on the rise—and in demand.

Making time to unplug is a higher priority than ever before, and places that help us put our phones down are popping up everywhere. Some restaurants are serving up discounts if you power down, for example, and others are mandating that date-night dinners be phone-free only (so, no booking other Bumble dates while you’re on one), and even some smoothie bars kindly forbid your devices and want to inspire you to “re-connect as a community, away from social networks.”

Hotels may now actually brag about not having WiFi: Everywhere from Camp Grounded in Mendocino, CA, whose motto is “disconnect to reconnect” to Villa Stephanie in Baden-Baden, Germany (the famous spa town)—which blocks all WiFi signals from your room by embedding copper plates in the walls to prevent your boss’ emails from reaching you on vacation—to the Mandarin Hotel Las Vegas’ ‘digital wellness escape” (check your phones at the front desk, please). Want to go where no cell towers can reach you? A new glamping startup called Hipcamp can find you an off-the-grid place, a la Airbnb.

And slow-the-eff-down brand Folk Rebellion (AKA the the brilliant minds behind those “Analog as Folk” tees) is in the planning stages for a tech-free clubhouse in New York City—basically a place to pause for always-on professionals. “People feel more lonely, more stressed, and anxious than ever,” says Folk Rebellion founder Jess Davis. “The technology that was meant to connect us and simplify our lives, when overused, in fact, causes the opposite reaction.”

Expect the “it” spots of 2018 to be spaces where going analog is the entire point…not the sign of a bad WiFi connection.

10 Powerful Tips On Getting Rid Of Negative Energy

Energy is everything.

You can’t see it, but you can definitely feel it. If you’ve ever instantly disliked someone without knowing why – or on the flip side, instantly connected with them – it’s because of the ‘vibe’ that you are both radiating.

Some people give off negative vibes, and others positive.

What’s important is that we are naturally attracted to people who give off a similar vibe to ourselves – that’s why, if you’re in a negative state, you may feel attracted to people who are also negative, and dislike or be repelled by people who are vibrating more positively.

Your home and your workplace are powerful concentrations of “your” energy just because of the amount of time you spend there. The thoughts you think, the words you say, the actions you take, are very strong in your home.

So it’s important to clear out negative energy in these physical spaces, and at the same time clear out any negative energy that is stuck within you, so you can start an upward trend in your life.

Here are 10 ways to clear negative energy:

1. Clean up!

Every time you get rid of clutter, dirt and dust, and straighten up and organize your belongings, you are restoring order. Think about it – a clean, orderly space feels light and bright – lightness and brightness are very high-vibrating energies! Your home and workplace are not only concentrations of your energy, but they are reflections of your inner state.

Clean up your mind with the right use of the word “but.” Every time you think or say a negative phrase, add “but” to the end and add a positive statement to neutralize it.

For example, “I can’t afford to take you to that concert but there are lots of free concerts we could go to this weekend.” This is such a great habit, so start using “but” after any negative statement and be sure you never end a positive statement with “but”!

2. Clap your hands, or make loud noises with pots and pans

Walk through every space of your home, and clap loudly to break up negative energy patterns and allow them to disperse.

Have you ever noticed how light and fresh everything seems after a thunderstorm?

Same concept!

3. Meditate on love

Love is the highest vibration, and you can infuse yourself and your living and work spaces with a loving meditation where you focus on radiating love to everyone you know.

4. Rearrange the space

Move furniture around – it’s the same concept as the loud noises – and rearrange your furniture and belongings so that there is as much free, open space as possible.

5. Smile and laugh

Laughter is the best medicine, for a reason! Smiling and laughing causes physiological changes. You can’t help but improve your mood (vibration) by smiling!

6. Use a small bowl of sea salt in the northeast and southwest corners of your home

This Feng Shui practice helps balanced chi (energy) to flow through your home.

7. Open windows to let energy flow freely

(Unless you live somewhere that is heavily polluted.)

Spend as much time as you can outdoors, feeling the vast expanse of the world and the universe. Set your intention for negative energies to leave you and “hand them over” to the universe; it’s infinite, and can easily “absorb” anything you put out there!

8. Add living plants to your spaces

And again, spend as much time as you can outdoors. Remove dead or dying plants immediately, though – and be careful with this technique if you have a “black thumb.”

9. Avoid negative people

These complainers, drama queens, energy vampires and downers just drag you down. Make excuses… just do what you can to keep your distance.

10. Finally, choose not to hang on to emotions

Ride out the emotion; while you’re feeling the negative emotion, say to yourself, “I feel (sad, angry, whatever)” but never say, “I AM (sad, angry, etc.).” You can let go of feelings but you can’t let go of yourself. Don’t BE the negative energy.

Remember that positive attracts positive – so the more positive YOU are, the more positive energy you’ll attract!

Collagen – the top superfood of 2018

Scoop by heaping scoop, collagen has gained mainstream interest over the past year as everyone adds the superfood to their smoothie—and in 2018, it’ll make its way into every facet of our lives.

Collagen is one of the cleanest types of protein powders, free of many additives that typically fill the supplement aisle. Consumers are increasingly interested in knowing where their food comes from and exactly what’s in it, and collagen, with its single-ingredient label, serves that demand. Collagen also has gut-healing properties and is increasingly being used to treat many modern ailments from anxietyto acne. “Collagen is a protein found naturally in our bones, joints, cartilages, and skin,” explains Bindiya Gandhi, M.D. “Unfortunately, as we age, the natural production of collagen decreases. Supplemental collagen is great for skin care, anti-aging, repairing the gut, improving wound healing, immune system, and more.”

As for why collagen is suddenly everywhere: “Emerging science is finally reaching a critical mass and trickling down to everyday consumers,” says Will Cole, D.C., a functional medicine practitioner. “People are yearning for ways to deal with the rise of the health problems we are facing as a society. Microbiome and gut health research is a catalyst for people to take responsibility for their health.”

Vital Proteins, the category leader in the collagen space, has seen 250 percent growth over the past year, and, after the influx of $19 million of capital, that number should only continue to rise in 2018. The brand recently launched collagen creamer and collagen matcha, both of which joined their existing beauty water and bone broth powder product debuted earlier this year. “Expect to see us in even more retailers nationally,” founder and CEO Kurt Seidensticker told mbg. “In the next year, collagen will become a foundational product that people use throughout their day. Our goal here is to find convenient opportunities for consumers to take collagen on a daily basis.”

Bone broth, the richest natural source of collagen, will continue its expansion to the mainstream as well. Brodo, an NYC-based broth shop, has started selling their frozen broth online, joining the ranks of larger companies like Pacific. Companies like BRU and Bonafide Provisions are redefining what broth can be, with their coffee-infused bone broth and bone-broth-based drinkable veggies, respectively.

In 2018, look to have a healthier gut as collagen infuses every facet of your day, from breakfast to dessert.

5 Short Meditations That Will Change Your Life

Meditation is the gift that keeps on giving. When your mind becomes still your breath deepens which brings a relaxing feeling to the physical body. Meditation assists in decreasing stress and opening up the mind to think more clearly. In addition, studies have showed that meditation lowers blood pressure, reduces blood sugar levels, increases circulation and improves mental health. When you begin to practice meditation you will move from the road of chaos to the road of peace.

Here are 5 short meditations that if done regularly will change your life:

1 – Next time you drive somewhere, sit in your parked car for 10 full breaths before going inside. Think “I am” as you inhale and “happy in this moment” as you exhale.

2 – Instead of singing along with the radio on your drive, say 10 nice things about yourself out loud, starting each item with “I am” – I am beautiful, I am strong, I am funny, I am creative… Start your list with a whisper and end it with a shout!

3 – Grab a pillow and set a timer for 4 minutes. Sit up nice and tall on your pillow and imagine your favorite vacation spot. Think of the smells, sounds, and sensations of everything in that spot.

4 – Close your eyes and hum in the shower. If your tone is high, slowly bring it down one note until your voice is as deep as it can get. If it’s low, make it higher and higher. Examine how each tone makes you feel. Find your favorite note and use that one to hum during your next meditation.

5 – Place your hand on your heart. Take 10 deep breaths. With each inhale, imagine someone you love. With each exhale, send them love straight from your heart. Can you feel the energy coming from your heart space?
